FOCAL in Queenstown can easily complete challenging folds and forming with our 5 axis Durma press brake.
Folded corten planter boxes
Purchasing the Press Brake brand new from Leabourn & Rose in 2023, FOCAL has not only purchased a quality machine but also purchased from a reputable supplier that backs up the machines that they sell ensuring that we will continue to be able to create quality and accurate parts from the press brake for years to come.
The machine is a 175-tonne machine with a maximum folding length of 3050mm meaning in real terms that we can fold 10mm steel plate at 3 meters.
Folded stainless steel mirror
The 5 CNC controlled axis’ mean that we can program challenging bends and ensure that they are accurate and most importantly consistent for large runs of parts.
With FOCAL being a predominately sheet metal-based shop, the bulk of the work that this brake completes is folding on aluminium, brass and stainless steel along with corten which is seeing wide-spread use on in the Central Otago region.

Aligning this machine with our in-house design team using the Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360 packages, our 6KW Bodor laser cutter and our team of skilled fabricators, FOCAL is set up to complete jobs from design all the way through to install without the need to rely on other supplies in our supply chain allowing us to have complete control over quality, costs and timeframes.
So, how does our press brake help you?
Forming parts from flat sheet and plate parts gives you the ability in freedom through design. Any holes, slots, tabs can be integrated into your drawings through the CAD stage, cut on the laser and then formed into intricate 3D shapes that are just not possible nor cost effective to create when you are manufacturing from box sections or angles.
Efficiencies can also be achieved by creating locating tabs and slots to reduce the setup time in fabrication. This means lower overall costs of parts along with the ability to create parts exactly how you want them and not being confined to a standard-sized length of steel box, angle or flat available from the metal suppliers.
If the whole design element of this sounds daunting or you are not a native CAD user, don’t worry!
We have an in-house design team and can help create these intricate parts working with you meaning that all you have to worry about is approving our drawings and picking them up when completed.
Folded hot-rolled steel speakerbox
FOCAL as a company predominantly works within the construction industry in the Central Otago region and commonly the parts we are folding are for things such as rains screen and cladding, pivot style or entry way doors, custom guttering where continuous style gutters do not suit the architectural home, slot drains for thresholds, brackets for fixing details, bespoke flashings and soakers where colour steel flashings are not suitable and require a higher level of finish, chimney flues and flue caps, indoor and outdoor fires, sliding or swing gates.

The options are limitless however and every day we get more and more challenging drawings sent through by architects and interior designers that FOCAL thrives from being a solutions-based business.
Another increasing demand for FOCAL is for supplying and installing benchtops from stainless steel or brass. The benchtops are generally folded into a 3D sheet metal part from the flat sheets. Pairing these with the laser cutter means that we can create challenging benchtops and efficiently and accurately cut out sink holes, hobs and tapware compared to other companies cutting these with a guillotine and holes out with a grinder. For benchtops, we generally act as sub-contractors for companies.

Joinery companies will sell the benchtops as a part of their joinery package for a kitchen, however, if you are in need for a new benchtop for an existing kitchen, we are more than happy to help.
The joinery companies that we closely work with and can highly recommend as providing great quality kitchens are Coronet Woodware, Masterwood, Prime Kitchens and Wedgerwood Joinery.
FOCAL’s continuous and extensive investments in high quality machinery along with being the only company in Queenstown with a metal laser cutter and the largest laser cutter in the Central Otago region makes us the obvious choice for your next sheet metal or folding project.
