Custom steel fireplaces, hoods and surrounds

We make steel fireplace surrounds, hoods, hearths, chimney cladding and log stores for new homes and renovations. Linear fires set into stone or concrete walls, full-height clad chimneys, double-sided fireboxes and freestanding outdoor fires are all regular work for us.

Most of our fireplace work is folded steel plate, finished blackened, patinated or left raw and waxed. We also clad in brass and copper where the design calls for it. Panels are cut on our fibre laser and folded on the press brake, so joints are tight and the lines stay straight across a tall chimney.

Everything is designed, fabricated and installed in-house from our workshop in Frankton, Queenstown. We work across the Wakatipu Basin and Central Otago, and we work around the fireplace supplier so the surround, firebox and flue all come together on site.

Questions we are often asked

How long does a custom steel fireplace take?

Allow 4 to 6 weeks from approved shop drawings. We confirm the programme with the quote and work in with the builder's schedule so the surround is ready when the fire is.

Can you work from our architect's drawings?

Yes. Most fireplace work starts from architect's drawings or a joinery detail. We model it in 3D, check it against the firebox and flue requirements, and issue shop drawings for approval before anything is cut.

What finishes are available?

Blackened steel, patinated steel, raw waxed steel, brass and copper cladding, and powder coat for outdoor pieces. We finish everything in-house, so we can send samples before you commit.

Do you supply the firebox?

Either way works. We can supply the firebox, or you can supply one from your fireplace retailer and we build the steel surround, hood, cladding and hearth around it so the clearances are right.

Do you install, and where?

Yes. The team that fabricates the fireplace installs it. We cover Queenstown, Arrowtown, Wānaka and the wider Central Otago area.
